Giving Back

The Mission Beach Women's Club (MBWC) was organized on November 4, 1926, when 10 women, mostly Navy wives, gathered together by our founder, Mrs. Olive Van Dorsten, to form a club devoted to the ideals of community service and represnet the women of Mission Beach. At first, members met at each other's homes. The club purchased the clubhouse known as The Shirley Cottage, a charming historic house built in 1918, one of the first buildings built in Mission Beach, which continues to be our venue.
​
Today, the Mission Beach Women’s Club continues its role of community service, having raised and given away over $1M since they were founded.  It is a 501c3 nonprofit organization with the revenue generated through venue rentals flowing directly back into the community in addition to a large fundraiser once a  year and small fundraising through the year.
